Take Two is determined to port its IP to mobile platforms

The mobile gaming market is becoming increasingly popular, with traditional gaming giants like PlayStation, Xbox and Take-Two rushing in.

Information says that a free mobile version of the famous game Elden Ring is also being developed. Two years ago, Take-Two completely acquired mobile gaming company Zynga with the aim of transferring its famous IP to mobile platforms, but the company still hasn’t found the right direction.

Take Two is determined to transfer its famous IP to the mobile platform. However, Take-Two still expressed its intention to adapt its game into a mobile game. At the TD Cowen conference, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick reiterated the company’s plans to release popular IP to mobile platforms. When asked if they had made progress or if this was still part of the plan, Zelnick explained the company’s goals in this regard.
“I really want to announce a successful mobile game based on Take-Two’s classic IP and I’m very sure it can be done,” the CEO said. Zelnick also admitted that successfully transferring IP to mobile phones is not an easy task.

After that, people often said “let’s make it like” Call of Duty Mobile but this CEO sees Call of Duty Mobile as a special case and Take-Two’s IP cannot be compared at this point. Since its acquisition of Zynga, the mobile gaming platform has become extremely important for Take-Two. Since then, they have been looking for ways to expand further into the mobile gaming market.

The CEO said creating a successful mobile game is still in the plans. However, Zelnick seems a bit concerned about the possibility of failure as the mobile gaming industry becomes more competitive and complex. Zelnick has shown his determination to transform and we wait to see how Take Two fares in this.

According to the press release, Embracer Group will sell Gearbox Entertainment for SEK 4.9 billion ($460 million). The transaction, comprising entirely of newly issued Take-Two stock, is anticipated to be completed in the first fiscal quarter ending on June 30, 2024. As a result of the divestment, Take-Two will receive holds the rights to the following IPs: Borderlands, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, Homeworld, Risk of Rain, Brothers in Arms and Duke Nukem.
